Dominium Begins Construction on St. Paul Affordable Housing Development
Groundbreaking ceremony planned for 217-unit Union Flats
Dominium announced today that it will begin construction on Union Flats, a 217-unit affordable housing development in St. Paul, Minn. A groundbreaking celebration is planned for October 25, 2017.
Dominium began construction of the affordable housing community on August 31st. Units will include 9-foot ceilings, private balconies, full kitchens including dishwashers, high-quality interior finishes, silestone/quartz countertops and new Energy Star appliances.
The exterior will undergo significant improvements including a playground, private courtyard, public pavilion, pool, gazebo, grills and picnic/seating area. Indoor common area amenities will include a fitness center, yoga studio, clubhouse, bike café, mail kiosk, and more. A subsurface parking garage and additional storage will also be available to residents.
Union Flats includes more than $1.5M of environmental clean-up and remediation. The property emphasizes the existing transit along the University Avenue corridor by adding walk-up units, plenty of bicycle storage and creating new access to Territorial Road from Charles Avenue.
“The closing of Union Flats strengthens the Dominium brand, while advancing our core values,” said Dominium development associate, Devon Quist. “The project will create long-term value in a neighborhood that is in the process of transitioning away from industrial. We believe that through our planned renovations, it will provide an opportunity for residents to live in units that are consistent with or better than neighboring luxury and market rate apartment communities.”
Renovations will be completed in early 2019. Dominium closed on the property in August of this year.
