Dominium Announces 51 Interns Starting in June
The affordable housing owner kicks off a new internship season with four separate programs
Dominium, a leading affordable housing owner, developer and manager announced today that it will be welcoming 51 paid interns to the company, as a part of one of its core values, Developing People.
“Creating opportunities for students to explore opportunities in property management is a way for Dominium to help young people pursue their dreams and reach their full potential,” says Partner and Senior Vice President of Property Management Jack Sipes.
In Fall 2020, with the belief that talent is widespread but opportunity is not, Dominium launched its Resident Internship Program. The program, which provides young affordable housing residents with paid career training, is a way of living out that value. Providing safe, high-quality affordable housing helps residents meet basic needs, while this internship program can set high-school-age residents up for a successful future.
This year, Dominium will have 27 residential interns across Florida, Minnesota and Texas participating in this internship program—double the size of last year. High school students will learn how apartment management works by shadowing community management employees. Focus areas will include customer service and book-keeping, general employment skills in the office, and grounds care, leasing and maintenance. The program will also provide training on resume writing and other soft skills that they will need in the future. Dominium plans to continue doubling the number of participants in the Resident Internship Program each year.
The Corporate Internship Program (summer only) will have eight corporate interns, located in Minnesota, who will be working in the accounting, finance, human resources, marketing and public affairs departments. This internship program, which accepts only college-aged students, has quadrupled in the past three years.
In addition, Dominium will be hosting nine interns in its Development & Acquisitions Internship Program—three participants each located at the new Atlanta, Dallas and Phoenix regional offices. This particular program is the longest standing internship program for Dominium and is widely recognized as a premier opportunity for students in real estate programs. The criteria for enrolling in this internship opportunity is difficult as Dominium only takes students from the top real estate programs in the United States with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.8. Many individuals who are currently full-time employees in Dominium’s development department began as interns, including some on the executive level.
Lastly, there will be seven Property Management interns who will be working at various properties in Florida, Georgia, Minnesota and Texas. Participants in this program (summer only) are Property Management majors from top colleges and universities and will be receiving hands-on experience at Dominium communities. Students in this program are often hired by Dominium following internship completion.
