THE POWER 30: Paul Sween, Dominium Inc.
Managing Partner Paul Sween was highlighted in THE POWER 30, a new feature from Finance & Commerce that examines the power brokers who lead and influence Minnesota’s business community.
We’re proud to announce Managing Partner Paul Sween was recently named to THE POWER 30, a new feature from Finance & Commerce that examines the power brokers who lead and influence Minnesota’s business community.
In Paul’s 33 years at Dominium, the company has completed a series of high-profile redevelopments across the country. One, the Pillsbury A-Mill overlooking the Mississippi River, is a fixture of the Minneapolis skyline. But Paul points out our portfolio is more oriented to new construction.
The most important project he has overseen while at Dominium involved creating prototypes for family, senior housing and other developments.
“If you were to see one of our developments that we did last year, versus one we did this year versus one we’ll do next year, there’s a lot of similarities,” he told Finance & Commerce. “They’re not individually designed. Our analogy was that Apple does not develop a cellphone just for you, but they take a lot of time developing improvements every year or two.”
This focus on a standard design for Dominium developments lends itself to construction efficiencies during building and comfortable living for our residents. It also means there are less mistakes made during development. Overseeing the project may be “the crowning achievement” of his career, Paul told Finance & Commerce.
Dominium has grown under Paul’s leadership. The company manages 37,000 apartments with a goal of 40,000 by 2025. It manages more than $7 billion in properties. It employs more than 1,200 people in almost half of US states and ranks fourth in the country in providing affordable housing.
But alongside housing, Paul takes tremendous pride in the quality of his talented team. It’s the company’s goal to help its employees grow as people and professionals. “One of the values that we have as a company is we develop people,” said Paul. “We’re proud of the many people who have worked for Dominium and who have gone on to do wonderful developments all over the country.”
